About this service
SSDs are faster but more complex to recover than HDDs. Each manufacturer uses proprietary controllers (Phison, Silicon Motion, Marvell, SandForce) with native wear-leveling and encryption algorithms. At +DR Data Recovery we use specialized tools for NAND flash and rebuild data via chip-off when needed.
Types of failures we handle
Controller
- ●Controller failure (Phison, SMI, Marvell)
- ●Firmware locked in safe mode
- ●Corrupted BCH/LDPC ECC
- ●Lost block mapping
NAND flash
- ●Wear-out (cells written past their limit)
- ●High bad-block count
- ●Thermal or electrical damage
- ●Charge loss in cells (more than 1 year without power)
Logical
- ●TRIM erased data logically
- ●Lost partitions
- ●Accidental format
- ●Corrupted file system
- ●Native encryption (Opal SED)

Factors that affect the price
- ●SSD capacity (up to 1.5 TB / 2–6 TB / more than 6 TB)
- ●Chosen plan: Basic (15–25 days), Standard (4–7 days), or Urgent (1–72 hours)
- ●Whether chip-off or controller firmware-level work is required
- ●Lab intake on receipt: RD$ 1,500 (Basic/Standard) or RD$ 5,000 (Urgent)
- ●After-hours Special Service: +30% over Urgent
Frequently asked questions
Is it true that SSDs can lose data when stored without use? ▾
Yes. NAND cells hold the electric charge that represents your data, but that charge dissipates over time if the SSD is not powered. After 1–2 years without being connected (less in hot environments), cells can lose enough charge to corrupt data. That is why an HDD is still better for long-term offline storage.
Does TRIM destroy data forever? ▾
Traditionally yes — TRIM tells the SSD it can physically erase blocks. However, on some models and controllers there are new techniques that allow data recovery even after TRIM has run. Not guaranteed in every case, but worth evaluating in the lab. If you deleted something from an SSD, power it off immediately and bring it for diagnostic.
Do you recover SSDs encrypted with Opal/SED? ▾
Only if we have the password or the AdminPIN. Without the credentials, hardware AES-256 encryption is unbreakable. Always keep your PINs backed up outside the SSD.
What do I do if my SSD is no longer detected? ▾
Stop connecting it. Some models enter "panic mode" or "thermal protection" and each connection worsens the state. Call us first.
